Wiseman

David Wiseman stands out as one of the preeminent designers of his generation in America. He studied furniture design at the Rhode Island School, where he entered wanting to be an illustrator or a painter. After taking some 3D classes he was fascinated by the idea of his drawings becoming objects.

His designs are heavily influenced by his profound admiration for the natural world, diverse decorative arts traditions worldwide and a deep respect for timeless craftsmanship techniques.

Most of Wiseman's creations are one-of-a-kind objects crafted in his studio, located in Los Angeles, California, from materials such as porcelain, bronze, glass, stone and plaster. The intricate details on each piece are breathtaking.

Examples of the artist’s work include porcelain cherry blossom ceilings, bronze-patterned filigree folding screens, lighting and meticulously crafted marble and terrazzo inlay furniture, all of which underscore the enduring significance of ornamentation and beauty in contemporary architecture and daily life.

David's fascination with nature transcends mere aesthetics, drawing inspiration from patterns found in crystalline structures, honeycombs, cell formations, ocean swells and decorative elements from various cultures and historical periods. Rather than merely replicating historical designs, Wiseman rejuvenates interiors and spaces with innovative approaches.

Born from his intimate connection with nature, Wiseman's sculptures, furniture pieces and site-specific installations reflect his commitment to creating pieces that possess lasting quality and permanence, a value increasingly scarce in modern design.

While David Wiseman's work often remains out of the public eye, he transforms private residences into tranquil retreats, integrating nature through magnificent metal fireplace screens and sprawling flowering branch installations that seem organically rooted in the architecture.

Those fortunate enough to experience his creations either receive personal invitations to these homes or explore his work through his book, which offers a visual feast of intricate patterns.
